“Big Meeting at the Studio”
One of the first major mistakes a newcomer makes in selling their idea is the assumption that the studio or broadcast entity they have finally secured a meeting with will actually serve as their funding source. In many instances the newcomers first encounter with “decision makers” results in his first personal encounter with cardiac arrhythmia. Upon completion of his presentation the executives express great enthusiam for the newcomers “idea”; “Jeff we love it but who’s going to fund it?” The arrhythmia sets in and the newcomer responds; “I thought you were the guys who put up the money!”. The newcomer returns to his stuio apt. immediately gets on the phone and reports to to his underwriters [friends and family] that he has successfully sold his idea and all he has to do now is find the money to make it happen.
