Super Bowl Halftime Shows Ranked: From Worst to Best

Posted February 5, 2016 By rariccardi

Pop spectacles, Janet’s nipple, Springsteen’s marathon, Left Shark and loads of soul revues – we’ve seen ’em all

There is no gig in music like the Super Bowl halftime show. You have 12 minutes to justify your legend. You have 150 million people watching, most of whom are distracted by the nachos platter, how much beer is left in the fridge or how much of the rent they bet on the Panthers. Chances are it’s the biggest worldwide audience of your life, and getting it right means rising to the hugeness of the moment. Getting it wrong can crush a career. Good luck, Coldplay.

And with Super Bowl 50 set for this Sunday, what better time to rank the Big Game’s halftime shows from worst to best. Here’s a subjective, personal, irresponsible and indefensible breakdown of the winners and losers. The Bonos and Beyoncés and Bruces and Britneys. The Janets and Justins. The Michaels and Maccas and Madonnas. Plus the year they trapped poor Gloria Estefan in a Minnesota “Winter Magic” pageant with a bunch of figure skaters and inflatable snowmen. Believe it or not, all these Super Bowl halftime shows really happened. Some were transcendent. Some sucked. Pass those bacon fritters and enjoy the show.

I’m Biracial, and That Cheerios Ad Is a Big Fucking Deal. Trust Me.

By now you know some racist dicks have whipped themselves up in a frenzy of racist dickery over the portrayal of an interracial family in a Cheerios ad. You see, Cheerios has committed the heinous crime of “acknowledging that interracial families exist,” and also that “sometimes interracial families need to eat breakfast.” This was too much for the racist dicks—Cheerios was forced to disable comments on YouTube where the video was posted. (What’s up with you racist dicks, anyway? Don’t you have jobs?)

Adele fans, rejoice: The sassy British songstress is in full control of her voice after months of silence during recovery from throat surgery. Sitting down with Anderson Cooper, Adele opened up about her vocal timeout and even sang her hit “Rolling in the Deep” a capella. The result was casual but stunning. Not speaking during recovery “was really hard,” she said. “I love talking … I had a notepad and an application on my phone. You type the words into it and then it speaks it. The great thing is, I love to swear … and I found one where you can swear, so I could get my point across.”Whether its four-letter words or weepy ballads, were just glad Adele is back up to speed. Were also glad Cooper admitted “Rolling” is on his daily jogging playlist see the clip below.Adele is nominated for six Grammy Awards, including album of the year. We suggest the Grammy producers be ready with the censor button, as any acceptance speech might be tres colorful.

NBC Orders Pilot for The Munsters Remake

The Munsters Remake

If this sounds familiar, like youve heard this same story just over a year ago, then dont worry youre not crazy. Brian Fuller last season had tried to reboot the classic 60s comedy. A pilot was ordered, but the first script was less than satisfactory, so NBC didnt move ahead. In the past year things have changed as the new NBC chief Bob Greenblatt took over the network, and decided to keep The Munsters alive. Apparently Fuller has worked out the kinks in the initial script, and all steam ahead.

NELLIE ANDREEVA

In August, New York State’s Film Production Tax Credit Program was extended and expanded to $420 million per year. Several months later, pilot production in the Big Apple is back in a big way. Nine broadcast drama pilots are filming there now, including such high-profile entries as NBC’s Prime Suspect and Smash, ABC’s Pan Am and CBS’ Susannah Grant. That is up from zero last year. The pilot for CBS’ New York-set Blue Bloods only shot some footage there.
