It’s official—the invisibility cloak is no longer just another product of childhood fantasy or J. K. Rowling novels. We’ve been waiting for this day for ages and had been ready to give up hope altogether until we stumbled upon this “transparent cloak” from a research team at the University of Tokyo’s Tachi Lab. Led by Dr. Susumu Tachi who’s currently at Keio University, researchers have been developing this concept since 2003, and if the above video is any indication, they’ve made some impressive strides.

But I dont think more iPods and iPhones is the long-term legacy of Steve Jobs. Its much bigger. The greatest legacy of Steve Jobs is that he gave permission to everyone else to be a poet of computers, to be a businessman in blue jeans, to be a constructive misfit, a technological artist, a corporate renegade, to think different, and to remember the soul of the machine. Because of him we all have now learned to demand that technology reveal its beauty.

Photography seems easy at first glance. You simply make your frame and press the shutter button. The reality is, everyone can take a photo but not all can master it. There’s more to photography than just simply “point and shoot.” Photography is a skill only a handful have the patience and the passion to stick with.Photography students and enthusiasts must educate themselves with many technical terms such as aperture, shutter speed, focus and exposure. You’ve probably read enough about that elsewhere, so how about a few photography effects? In this post I will share some photography tips and effects. They can enhance the beauty of your photos and they can be very fun to do, too.

FCP X 2.0 from www.KORDUROY.tv on Vimeo.

Cyrus Sutton is a surfer. And hes reviewing Final Cut Pro X for Gizmodo. Why? Because hes one of the best surf flick directors in decades. His movies exude a summertime vibe I wish I could bottle up for winter. You see, most surfers are inherent detail oriented gear heads. Youre talking about a culture where a quiver of 6-12 boards isnt excessive, each with minute differences in shape and contour and material that turn out to cause varying rides on bumps of energy that happen to be passing through the water for a few fleeting seconds at a time. Waves. And Cyrus likes waves. Before he ran a site dedicated to a low-key DIY surfer lifestyle, korduroy.tv, he was a pro surfer representing some of the most commercialized big name surf brands out there. But Cyruss gearhead-ness comes in a form more relevant to us, as seen when he starts talking about his cameras, computer and the software that he uses to make his movies. And yet, Cyrus is one of those digital pros that has enough going on outside of the internet to be able to keep in touch with the needs of those of us who arent pros, too. Which reminds me a lot of what this version of Final Cut Pro stands for.

10 If content is king, then creators are deities.

9 More people will spend more minutes watching more video on a computer/tablet/phone today than they did yesterday…

8 The word “content” should be referred to as “the other c-word”. Don’t be in the content business. Be in the “Hits” business. Don’t make content. Make hits!

7 Always be the low-cost provider.

6 Super-distribution… because who doesn’t want to be super?

5 Raising prices is the hardest thing you can do, so stand firm, be prepared to not get paid, and keep growing. They’ll come around eventually.

4 There’s 4 ways to evaluate quality: Script, performance, production, delivery. All of them are subjective. None of them are ever enough.

3 Reject the first offer.

2 Never listen to anyone who says, “That’s how we do it in Hollywood!”

1 Believe in your passions.
